Another interesting development . . .
The meaning of reasonable excuse has not been defined in the statute books, but the list mentioned does give some serious credibility to reasons for filing late.
So, is this a soft touch, or part of the Government strategy to move tax customers (if that is what we are), online?
... Whilst definitely a welcome move, the emphasis on catching criminals (those who evade tax), and those who avoid tax (ethically or not), could be more difficult.
The relative ineffectiveness of the UK Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), proves that criminal activity is rife and crooks are hard to catch.
Look forward to what happens next . . .

There is a new standard for businesses called the Fair Tax Mark. Here's what they say about themselves:
'The Fair Tax Mark, the world's first independent accreditation scheme to address the issue of responsible tax launched on February 20th with Midcounties Co-operative, Unity Trust Bank and The Phone Co-op becoming the first businesses to be accredited.
The Mark, which has been developed by a team of tax justice campaigners and tax experts, shows that a company is making a ...genuine effort to be open and transparent about its tax affairs and pays the right amount of corporation tax at the right time and in the right place.
Currently only offering accreditation to UK-based SMEs, the Fair Tax Mark has received backing from the Taxation Magazine, International Tax Review, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales as well as from several MPs. It also arrives at a time when recent polling from the Institute for Business Ethics has found that corporate tax avoidance is now the number one concern of the public when it comes to business conduct.
You can find out more about the Fair Tax Mark at www.fairtaxmark.net or read the coverage in the Guardian and on the BBC.'
